WK9 Mergers

Out of these two pictures picture my favorite is picture Photo B. The merges of this photo is the shadows in the background, and the shadow under the bush that darkens the sand.

WK8 What Do You Think

Yellow Flower Picture:

I think this picture is abstract because it shows the bright vibrant colors of  the yellow flower. I also think it is abstract because it shows the natural lighting, and you can also see into the flower where it gets darker and darker.

Hotel Picture:

I think this picture is abstract because I can see the that the angle of the picture is going up and there are shadows under the porch. The palm tree gives the picture the California feel and the sunshine makes the colors brighter. The texture on the wall with the rocks helps the colors stand out.

Rock Picture:

I do not think this picture is abstract because there are are no patterns or texture. The rocks show the the different layers and elements of the ocean decaying on the rocks.

Rain Drop Picture:

This picture is abstract because you can see the American flag in the raindrops and and the actual flag blurred out in the background which adds to the picture. It’s abstract because of the colors in this, and the natural lighting.

WK7 Historical Photos

Photo 1: (Hindenburg Lakehurst, N.J. Murray Becker, 1937 )

The background of this photo is when the Germans took down a ship called Hindenburg in 1937 attempting to dock at station Lakehurst. The center of interest of this picture is the vast dark figure in the photo, which is the ship going down under water after being hit. The wasted parts of this photo would be to me, the miscellaneous smoke going around. The background adds to the picture because it shows the whole situation in one shot. The photo is exposed properly for the time it was taken in. Yes, it is an emotional picture because of this situation that is going on in the photo, tons of lives were lost here and just the boat going down itself is a huge emotional shot. It is considered important to America because it included us and many lives were lost. My personal feelings towards this picture are very deep and it moves me.

Photo 2: (VJ Day, Times Square, 1945 The Kiss WWII)

The background I can give to the picture is that we had just won over Japan in WWII and these two lovebirds are celebrating. The center of interest of this picture is the two young people kissing. The wasted parts of the picture might be the background where the garbage is laying around on the cement and or the other people turned away from The Kiss. The background adds to the picture because it adds excitement. The photo is exposed properly because of the natural lighting and that it is in black and white. This picture is an emotional shot because it shows the two young people celebrating their victory together. This is important to America because we won, and this is that generation celebrating coming home from war and winning after a hard fight. My personal feelings towards this picture are that I really like this photo, I think it is super sweet and romantic.

Photo 3: (Migrant Mother, Dorothea Lange, 1936, The Great Depression)

The background that I can give to this picture is that this is a mother in the times of The Great Depression. She looks very weary and drought like, tired. The center of interest of this picture is the mother with her hand by her face as a way of expressing exhaustion and not sure what to do next. The wasted parts of this photo would be the bottom part of it. The background adds children into the picture literally and metaphorically due to the depression, the task of taking care of children was 10 times harder than what it was before the depression hit. The photo is exposed fine for the time it was taken in. It is an emotional picture because you can see the mothers face look old in the photo, and her eyes seem distant and yet hopeful as her children gather around her. This is considered important to America because it shows past generations and how they struggled but were surviving. My personal feelings towards this picture is that I really like it, although the circumstances were not that great and why the photographer took it. I think it holds a lot of emotion for women due to the fact this mother has all her children around her, in such a rough time.

Photo 4: (1944, Robert Capa, Omaha Beach Normandy, France, Photojournalism)

Omaha Beach was the code name for one of the five sectors of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944, during World War II. The center of interest of this photo is the man in the front of the camera lenses trying to protect himself. The wasted parts of this photo is the blurry ships in the background. The background to this picture adds to the picture because it gives the view the sense of what is going on in the moment the picture was taken. The photo is not exposed properly because it is blurry and you can’t see all that clearly. This is an emotional picture because this is war scene, and the man in the picture is probably really scared and the photographer is probably, most likely scared out of his mind for having to be in front of the soldier just to take a picture. This is important to America because it is WWII and we fought in that. My feelings to this picture is I like it, it is very tense  and an emotional.

Photo 5: (Snake River, The Tetons, 1942, Ansel Adams)

This picture is so important because Ansel Adams was a photographer who was known for his black and white photos. His photos were usually of landscapes such as this one we are looking at here. The center of interest of this picture would have to be the river running through the picture. The wasted parts of this picture might be the sky, and the clouds. The background adds to the picture because of the mountains and how they over shadow the river. The photo is exposed properly because the black and white adds to the sky hitting the river water. It is an emotional picture because Ansel Adams liked to photograph landscapes. My personal feelings to this picture is that I like it and I think it is super pretty, and I love how the mountains over shadow the river.

Photo 6: ( Joe Rosenthal, February 23 1945, U.S. Marines/Navy Iwo Jima)

This picture’s background depicts the moment of soldiers planting the American flag in the ground. The center of interest of this picture is the men planting the flag into the ground. The wasted parts of the picture might be the mountains in the background. The background adds to the picture by the mountains in the background that shows that the soldiers had to overcome the obstacles of the war and now are on top of and planting the flag. The photo was exposed properly because the back lighting of the photo makes the soldiers stand out more. It is a very emotional picture for the soldiers and for the viewers who look at it. It is considered important to America because it has the soldiers in this picture, and we are putting up the flag. My personal feelings towards this picture is that I like it a lot, and I love the emotion the picture brings me. Even though the faces are not clear in the picture all that well, you just know the feeling of victory that they had to had felt at that moment.
